2017. “Main Street Flood” between Kelly and 6th Street

As the result of uncontrolled grazing that thinned down plant life on hills surrounding the town, during the night of July 21, 1895, a heavy wall of water rushed through the downtown business district, leaving a trail of destruction. This Comcast Cares Project, led by Diana Ingalls Leyba, included YCC students who memorialized that disaster through the design of this mural. Through their research, students learned what buildings were destroyed and understood the reasons for the flood and the destruction it caused. This project also involved community members who made and installed thousands of clay rain drops.

2017. “Inundacion de la Calle Principal” Entre las Calles Kelly y la Sexta

Debido al descontrolado uso de las tierras de pastoreo que empobrecieron la vida vegetal en las colinas que rodean la ciudad, durante la noche del 21 de julio de 1895, se produjo una avalancha de agua sobre el distrito empresarial del centro de la ciudad, que dejó un rastro de destrucción a su paso. El Proyecto Comcast Cares, dirigido por Diana Ingalls Leyba, involucró a los estudiantes de YCC, que conmemoraron el desastre a través del diseño de este mural. A partir de sus investigaciones, los estudiantes descubrieron qué edificios fueron destruidos y entendieron las razones de la inundación y la catástrofe que esta misma causó. De este proyecto también formaron parte los miembros de la comunidad que crearon e colocaron las miles de gotas de lluvia de arcilla.
