Each clay and mosaic window frame is a still life laid out on a checkerboard in a landscape. Student artists selected images that would tell a narrative about each culture.

Cada marco de ventana de arcilla y mosaico es una vida inerte dispuesta sobre un damero en un paisaje. Los estudiantes de arte seleccionaron diversas imágenes que contaran una narrativa sobre cada cultura.
2007. “Mimbreño Heritage”
Artists Diana Ingalls Leyba and Cecilia Stanford worked with Sarah Pineda and her Cobre High School art students to create this multi-media mural commemorating the area’s Mimbreno history. The mosaic archway is divided into seven segments that represent the seven phases of the Mimbres culture and includes images of corn stalks, arrowheads, metate and mano, baskets, pots, jewelry, and a sandal. The plates are replications of Mimbres design. On either side within the frame are corn stalks, a staple in the diet of the Mimbres people. Arrowheads along the bottom indicate the importance of hunting. The green landscape in the painting is from the Mimbres Valley and reflects the connection between nature and the inhabitants. All the images on the checkerboard are painted from items in the Western New Mexico University Museum. Central is the metate and mano used for processing grain. A large woven basket used for gathering and storage, an intricately decorated pot, tools, jewelry, grains, and a sandal inform the day-to-day life of the Mimbres people.
2007. “La Herencia Mimbreno”
Las artistas Diana Ingalls Leyba y Cecilia Stanford trabajaron junto a Sarah Pineda y sus estudiantes de arte del Instituto Cobre para crear este mural multimedia que conmemora la historia de los Mimbrenos del área. El arco de mosaico está dividido en siete segmentos que representan las siete fases de la cultura Mimbreno e incluye imágenes de mazorcas de maíz, puntas de flecha, matete y metlapil, cestas, vasijas, joyas y unas sandalias. Los platos son réplicas del diseño Mimbreno. En cada lado del marco se pueden encontrar mazorcas, básicas en la dieta de los Mimbres. Las puntas de flecha en el fondo indican la importancia de la caza. El paisaje verde en la pintura es del Valle Mimbreno y refleja la conexión entre la naturaleza y los habitantes. Todas las imágenes en el damero están pintadas a partir de utensilios del Museo Universitario de Nuevo México Occidental. En el centro de encuentra el metate y metlapil, usados para procesar el grano. Una gran cesta tejida usada para recoger y almacenar, una vasija decorada minuciosamente, herramientas, grano y una sandalia informan de la vida diaria de los Mimbres.
2005. “Apache Heritage”
Artists Diana Ingalls Leyba and Cecilia Stanford worked with Aldo Leopold High School students to create this multi-media mural commemorating the area’s Apache history. The blue archway of the Apache Window represents the sky and includes designs adapted from Apache baskets. Also included are images of the agave, prickly pear cacti, boots, a ceremonial headdress, a cradleboard, arrows, a medicine bag, and an image of Cooke’s Peak. Included in the corners of the frame are images of Victorio, Warm Springs Apache chief, with ceremonial mountain spirit dancers. Images of dawn light in the sky and the surrounding agave symbolize the importance of morning prayer.
2005. “Herencia Apache”
Las artistas Diana Ingalls y Cecilia Stanford trabajaron junto a los estudiantes de secundaria del Aldo Leopold para crear este mural multimedia conmemorando la historia de los Apaches de la zona. El arco azul de la Ventana Apache representa el cielo e incluye diseños adaptados de cestas Apaches. También se incluyen imágenes del agave, el cactus de higos chumbos, botas, un tocado ceremonial, un portabebés, flechas, una bolsa de medicamentos y una imagen del Pico de Cooke. También se han incluido en las esquinas del marco las imágenes de Victorio, el jefe Apache de Warm Springs, con espíritus de las montañas bailarines ceremoniales. Las imágenes del atardecer en el cielo y los agaves que lo rodean simbolizan la importancia de la oración matinal.
2009. “Hispanic Heritage”
Artists Diana Ingalls Leyba and Cecilia Stanford worked with Silver High School students to create this multi-media mural commemorating the area’s Hispanic history. This window includes elements of Mexican culture on the left and Spanish culture on the right, merging with the keystone into an element from the Mexican flag. Included in this window are images representing Quetzalcoatl (Serpent god), the Mayan calendar, and a ceremonial headdress. In addition, there are images depicting invaders, culture, religion, music, work, and family. The conquistador helmet, the ship, and the milagro represent the entrance of the Spanish into this area. The Spanish brought horses, and this is represented with horse heads framing the lower edge. Our Lady of Guadalupe, roses, and the candles symbolize the merging of cultures. The Kneeling Nun in the distance with the mine pit represents the connection between religion and work. The hanging ristra, vegetables, salsa, bowl, and blanket represent the importance of family. The guitar and the hat reflect the importance of music. Poncho Villa is pictured in a tin-worked frame and the glass work around the bottom echoes the rhythm of weaving.
2009. “Herencia Hispánica”
Las artistas Diana Ingalls Leyba y Cecilia Stanford trabajaron junto a los estudiantes del Instituto Silver para crear este mural multimedia conmemorando la historia de los Hispanos del área. Esta ventana incluye elementos de la cultura mejicana a la izquierda y la española a la derecha, fusionándose con la piedra angular en un elemento de la bandera mexicana. Se incluyen en esta ventana imágenes que representan a Quetzalcoatl (dios Serpiente), el calendario Maya, y un tocado ceremonial, así como a los invasores, la cultura, la religión, la música, el trabajo y la familia. El casco de conquistador, el barco y el milagro representan la entrada de los españoles en el área. Estos trajeron caballos, lo cual se muestra con las cabezas de caballo que enmarcan los límites de abajo. Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, las rosas y las velas simbolizan la mezcla de culturas. La Monja de Rodillas a la distancia con la mina representan la conexión entre la religión y el trabajo. La ristra colgante, las verduras, la salsa, los recipientes y la manta representan la importancia de la familia. La guitarra y el sombrero reflejan la importancia de la música. Se puede ver a Poncho Villa en un marco de hojalata y la obra de cristal alrededor del fondo representa el ritmo de los tejidos.
2006. “Anglo Heritage”
Artists Diana Ingalls Leyba and Cecilia Stanford worked with Carl Levi’s Cliff High School students to create this multi-media mural commemorating the area’s Anglo history. The archway has local brands edged by barbed wire. Technology is reflected by the truck, train, telephone, radio, and camera. Images of Billy the Kid, a revolver, rifle, cards, and poker chips symbolize the Wild West. Although mining spans several cultures, it was a strong influence and is noted in the lower ceramic tiles.
2006. “Herencia Anglosajona”
Las artistas Diana Ingalls Leyba y Cecilia Stanford trabajaron junto a los estudiantes del Instituto Carl Levi para crear este mural multimedia que conmemora la historia de los anglosajones del lugar. El arco tiene marcas locales bordeadas por alambre de púas. La tecnología se refleja en el camión, el tren, el teléfono, la radio y la cámara. Las imágenes de Billy el Niño, un revolver, un rifle, las cartas y las fichas de póker simbolizan la Vida del Oeste. A pesar de que la minería abarca muchas culturas, esta tuvo una gran influencia y se puede percibir en los azulejos de cerámica más bajos.
2008. “Multi-Cultural Heritage”
Artists Diana Ingalls Leyba and Cecilia Stanford worked with Sarah Pineda’s Cobre High School art students to create this multi-media mural commemorating the area’s varied populations. This window highlights three cultures: The Buffalo soldiers, the early Jewish settlers, and the Chinese. The painting is framed by military medals for the Buffalo soldiers interwoven by an abundant garland that references the Chinese vegetable gardens. The panels on the side were taken from a Chinese mercantile. The menorahs and the buildings of Jewish merchants span the bottom in bas-relief. The cash register, Torah, and an historical photograph commemorate in paint the early Jewish settlers. The vegetables, an old soy sauce bottle, and slippers reference the Chinese immigrants. The medal, the hat, and the soldiers near Fort Bayard immortalize the Buffalo soldiers.
2008. “Herencia Multi Cultural”
Las artistas Diana Ingalls Leyba y Cecilia Stanfors trabajaron junto a los estudiantes de arte de Sarah Pinera del Instituto Cobre para crear este mural multimedia que conmemora a las diversas poblaciones del área. Esta ventana resalta tres culturas: los soldados Buffalo, los primeros colonos judíos y los chinos. La pintura está enmarcada con medallas militares por los soldados Buffalo entrelazadas por una gran guirnalda que hace referencia a los huertos chinos. Los paneles en los costados han sido cogidos de un mercantil chino. Las menorás y los edificios de mercantiles judíos cubren el fondo en bajorrelieve. La caja registradora, la Torah, y una fotografía histórica conmemoran en pintura a los primeros colonos judíos. Las verduras, una vieja botella de soja y unas pantuflas hacen referencia los inmigrantes chinos. La medalla, el sombrero y los soldados cerca del Fuerte Bayad inmortalizan a los soldados Buffalo.
