Downtown Silver City: 14. The Hub / El Hub
2007. “Fort Bayard History”
Artists Carlene Roters and Diana Ingalls Leyba worked with Fran Morrison’s 6th and 7th grade students at La Plata Middle School to create this mural located at The Hub in historic downtown Silver City in the heart of the Arts and Cultural District. From local historians, students learned about the Apache and the history of Fort Bayard as both a fort and as a hospital. Youth artists painted scenes on strips of mural cloth depicting the history of old Fort Bayard that includes the Buffalo soldiers, Nazi prisoners of war who were housed in Fort Bayard, and the nurses who cared for TB patients in the early 1900s.
2007. “Historia Ft. Bayard”
Las artistas Carlene Roters y Diana Ingalls Leyba trabajaron junto a los estudiantes de sexto y séptimo del Fran Morrison de la Escuela Secundaria La Plata para crear este mural localizado en El Hub, en el centro histórico de Silver City en el corazón del Distrito de Artes y Cultura. Los estudiantes aprendieron a través de historiadores locales sobre los Apaches y la Historia del Fuerte Bayard como fuerte y como hospital. Los jóvenes artistas pintaron escenas en tiras de tela de mural representando la historia del viejo fuerte, que incluía a los soldados búfalo, los prisioneros nazis de guerra que fueron hospedados en el Fuerte Bayard, y las enfermeras que cuidaron a los pacientes de tuberculosis a principios del 1900.
2010. “Transportation in the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s”
Sarah Pineda’s Cobre High School art students worked with artists Kate Brown and Krystina Romero to depict the history of the Clifton Motors Chevy dealership building located at The Hub in the heart of Silver City’s historic downtown district. The mural highlights cars and trucks from the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s.
2010. “Transportes en los años 30, 40 y 50”
Los estudiantes de arte de Sarah Pineda del Instituto Cobre trabajaron junto a las artistas Kate Brown y Krystina Romero para representar la historia del concesionario Clifton Motors Chevy ubicado en El Hub, en el corazón del distrito histórico del centro de Silver City. El mural resalta coches y camiones de los años 30, 40 y 50.
